All Good Things ...

With the end of the Mystique of the Japanese Print series near at hand, many of the display cases for the set - which have been on desktops (real desktops) all over the world for the past couple of years (as we saw in this post from some time back) - are about to be switched over from 'display mode' to 'storage mode'. I suppose that most people will do just what I intend to do with mine - put it up on a bookshelf.

After all, you're going to need that space on your desk for ... something else, quite soon!

Or does it go better facing backwards?

Dave- Why must I relegate this set, or even the original set to a book case? I will use the current location for the new series but I will continue to view the others on a rotating monthly schedule.
I am starting to rotate larger prints on a sesonal basis and I think your work should continue to be seen. After a year some of them are forgotten and this way they will continue to provide pleasure.
Let's get this new one started!!!
A bit on noise here but I would think quite a few of your subscribers are looking for the next installment.

Let's get this new one started!!!

I'm paddling as fast as I can! This evening was a complete 'side-track' - putting a number of spectacular new prints into the 'Old Prints and Books' section of the Mokuhankan catalogue - and tomorrow will be a write-off too, as I'll be downtown for the day at the Fuji TV studios doing a taping for the 「ほこ×たて」program, together with photogravurist Peter Miller.

And remember too, many of the more distant collectors still have yet to receive that final Mystique print. It doesn't need to go onto the bookshelf for a while yet ...

Actually there is a reason why I put my own case onto that shelf this evening - I've been trying to come up with a solution to something that has been bothering me for some time. I would love to have the title of the series engraved/printed on the wood so that it would be readable when the set is on the shelf. But I can't figure out a way to do it that wouldn't look strange - sideways - when the set is being used normally on one's desk.

Any ideas?

Dave
The box you showed was finished on the facing side. If you follow the last design of the drawer
you could Title the drawer for future reference in either direction. Using what was the back will provide a more formal, finished look as compared to the current box.
I like the current application. It fits any- where and draws enough attention to move you towards the print on display. An excellent frame and storage. You do not have to re-envent the display. Just my thoughts.
