Plenty of us here in Japan have been affected by the air cargo shutdown between the two countries, and - as we raise our voices bit by bit - word of our 'plight' (can I call it that?) is spreading ...
Mr. James Fallows, in his blog for the Atlantic magazine, wrote about it today ...
wonderful photo!
Dave, I was advised yesterday by my Post Master that all packages from Australia to the US weighing more than 463 grams will attract a $9 surcharge to cover new security screening measures. Presumably all packages will now be X-rayed, even so, it seems like someone is going to make a lot of easy money.
Is Jim Fallows one of your collectors? That would be rather interesting—we recently published his wife Deb's book Dreaming in Chinese, and I met him at an event for the book at the Asia Society here in New York.
Jim Fallows ...
Not a collector ... (at least not yet :-)
When I saw his blog entry about the Japanese postal problems, I wrote with some extra info for him, and he ended up using my comments (as linked above), and giving me a nice 'boost' at the same time ...
Lovely!
