[Forest in Summer - 7] : Third block finished ...

Posted by Dave Bull at 10:48 AM, June 15, 2009

Continued from [Forest in Summer - 6] | Starting point of the thread is [Forest in Summer - 1]

Here we are, with the first block for the base tone on the tree now finished. The white criss-cross area on the left is of course 'black'.

That's quite a tangle down there in the grasses (click it for enlargement)!

(I should mention that I made a mistake in the previous post, when I showed an image of the block I was about to start carving; that image was actually the second level of tree tone ... the block I'll be starting later this evening ...)

I said I might be keeping track of the working hours all through this print, and so far I have ...

1st block (image) : 17.5 hours
2nd block (image) : 17 hours
3rd block (image) : 15 hours

The thread continues in [Forest in Summer - 8] ...

How long do you carve before you take a break? Do you have any special stretches or exercises? the tangle looks delicious!

About three hours at a time is all I can manage. For this past week or so I've been usually doing three hours in the morning, then after lunch (and nap) another 2~3 hours, wrapped up with 1 1/2 ~ 2 hours in the evening.

No particular exercise routine ... It sometimes feels a bit stiff when I get up from the bench after sitting hunched over the magnifier for all those hours, but I'm kind of used to it by now.
