A selection of prints by the Author

PLATE VI - "Fuji from Miho"

Number of blocks used: 12
Number of impressions given: 40
Outline block in two colours.
Muda-bori were used for the waves, though they were taken away before the printing.
Obokashi (gradation over a large area) was used.

 

PLATE VII - "Obatan Parrot"

Number of blocks used: 8
Number of impressions given: 22
A part of the key block was used for indenting by blind printing.
Baren-suji for the background.

 

PLATE VIII - "Tomonoura Harbour"

Number of blocks used: 14
Number of impressions given: 57
The importance of drawing was emphasized.
A kind of print liable to have iro-ochi (colour omission)
and ketsu-ochi (blots and soil) as well.

 

PLATE IX - "A Window in Fatehpursikri"

Number of blocks used: 14
Number of impressions given: 47
The key block print is not easily recognizable, being submerged.
Five blocks used for the window.
Four wari-ban (split blocks) used for the reflection on the marble floor.
Fuki-tori and irregular gradation used.
Two impressions of baren-suji.
The outline of the figures was put in with a colour block at the end.

 

PLATE X - "Sarusawa Pond"

Number of blocks used: 14
Number of impressions given: 58
Built up with many impressions of light colours.
Body colour was used for the willow-trees.
Nine impressions for the water.

 

PLATE XI - "Peaceful Riishiri"

Number of blocks used: 12
Number of impressions given: 51
Reproduction of the key block (Figure 5)
and one of the colour blocks (Figure 6) of this print may be seen in Chapter Two.

 

PLATE XII - "A Misty Day in Nikko"

Number of blocks used: 14
Number of impressions given: 74
Cryptomeria-trees received 20 impressions.
Zokin-zuri was used for the stone-work.
Five impressions of baren-suji were given.
