YouTube : Remembering a Carver

From the YouTube description: "This video from Tokyo woodblock printmaker Dave Bull tells the story of his experiences with one of the old carvers - the late Mr. Susumu Ito. It's a combination of reminiscences and video clips from TV programs of the 1990's."

It's no exaggeration to say that this video changed my life. I made it kind of casually, with no script, just using a few notes stuck up on the wall in front of me to try and keep on track. I expected it would run around ten minutes, but it came out about three times that. It didn't make much of a ripple at first when I put it up on YouTube, but just around a year later, somebody mentioned it on Reddit, in r/Documentaries/ ... and we have never looked back. Millions of views later, there is (quite literally) never a day in our shop in Asakusa Tokyo when we don't hear from a visitor that it was this documentary that introduced them to our work, and induced them to come and see us.
