Continued from [Arts of Japan #5 - 1] : carving begins!

The shot of the key block before carving was taken late Friday evening, as I was knocking off for the night.

Saturday and Sunday are of course holidays, so ... anything done?

Yes! Holidays for the other staff here means only one thing for me - finally a chance to get to work uninterrupted! Here's the block at the end of Saturday:

And now again, late Sunday afternoon - it's done!

It's so nice to be back at the bench like this!

Great to see you back in town with this one Dave!

I am not familiar with the image though. Is it about the art of fishing at night?

Yes, it's a Meiji-era scene of cormorant fishing. Funny though, it's been so long since I selected the image and prepared the tracing, that I can't remember where I found it! And I'm going to need the master copy for reference for the next stages ...

Time for a 'treasure hunt' here in my little library ... :~)

I'm really excited about this and the previous post. I had been wondering if all the amazing work going on with the Ukiyo-e Heroes and Chibi Heroes had caused this project to become obsolete or to go into an early retirement. I had almost given up checking this site on a regular basis, but am thrilled to see another traditional print coming. While I am really liking the key block and can only image the beauty that will be the end result, I must admit that parting with the Kanzashi on my mantel will be a sweet sorrow as it has become one of my favorites, but it will will find its way back in due time and be appreciated all the more.

No way! It has been a big struggle with time management over the past few months, but the Heroes project(s) have now settled down to a fairly stable schedule I think. I have to cut a Chibi every month, and a Heroes every second month. The alternate months will be my own work ... Anyway, that's the plan, and I think it looks doable.

Yes, this has been a positive result of the delay. I have had lots of time to thoroughly enjoy this print!
