[Forest in Summer - 4] : First block finished ...

Continued from [Forest in Summer - 3] : Carving continues ... | Starting point of the thread was [Forest in Summer - 1] : Next print begins ...

As I mentioned yesterday, there was no chance for a full day's work, but the first block is now finished. (I kept track of the time, and it took 17.5 hours altogether ...) The wood was a bit softer than I'd like for a block with so many thin lines, but the fact that they are all grouped together will minimize problems when printing ...

So ... what's next? Should I 'skip around' to another area of the design, or continue with the blocks that will print this greenery ...

Let's stick with the green; here's the next one, ready to start ...

Looks a bit familiar, doesn't it!

My goodness! I thought that the first block, in all its intensity was like a key block, but that's not it at all. It's a color block. And there are going to be multiple color blocks with slightly offset overlays (each of them just as intense to carve) to get shading and modeling effects in the finished print!

Wow, what an ambitious project! How many blocks, in all?

No key block for this one; everything will be a 'colour' block. There are five pieces of wood ... ten faces, although four of those have multiple printing areas. There will also be overlay gradations; at this point it looks like something around 20~22 impressions - more than double the previous print, but nowhere near our 'record' for this series ...
