Hi David, the block looks great, a piece of art in its own right. I noticed patches of "texture" between some of the lines; are they part of the design? Will you be keeping all this linework or is some just for transferring information onto the colour blocks? Sorry about all these questions, but finally, what depth have you carved down to? Can't wait to see how it progresses. Kindest regards, Mark.

patches of "texture"

They are some (rough) 'scratch' carving, just to add a bit of texture to some of the areas that will be printed with deeper tones.

keeping all this linework

Yep, I think it'll all be staying. Although I am going to do a test version leaving this block off, just to see what it looks like.

what depth

Not quite sure, but maybe around 2mm at most, out in the middle of the water area. Most of it must be just around 1mm deep, I think. The cherry face of the block is about 4mm thick, and I get nowhere near the bottom of it.

Yes, a work of art in itself. It is my computer wallpaper for a while. Did you say how big it is?

Well, you should be correct - the thing as it is drawn contains just about the normal amount of detail for a print of that size. But - as I posted earlier - because the book itself will be only A4 size, the prints are going to come in with an image size of 165 x 245mm.

So if I had had any brains, I would have drawn this thing with much less detail. If ...
