Young Sunday magazine : Yamada Reiji, One on One

Since back in 2003, the well-known Japanese manga creator Yamada Reiji has had a series running in Young Sunday magazine: Zetsubō ni Kiku Kusuri (Medicine to Treat Despair). He interviews, and then writes about, people he believes are setting positive examples in society.

He came to visit me in 2005, and this feature manga was the result. It was fun to see myself portrayed this way, although quite a lot of the story got pretty simplified, and I still get a laugh out of seeing myself working at the music store back in Canada pushing a broom. (I was actually the general manager ... but perhaps this image makes a better 'story' :-)

The series has been collected into books published by Shogakukan, and this story of mine closes Volume 5.
