Although I do all the carving and printing on my woodblock prints myself, it would be impossible to create such works without considerable assistance from other craftsmen, people such as the paper maker, the block planer, etc. It was to ensure that collectors of my prints were introduced to these craftsmen that I started this newsletter, in the autumn of 1990.

Reaction from readers was very encouraging, and I have continued producing four issues each year since that time. Of course, the 'Hyakunin Isshu' project was the main focus of the stories in the early years, but since then I have stepped a bit farther afield ...
