Introduction to this journal

Starting a logbook of this project has been something I have been considering for a couple of months, because I'm starting to think that maybe it's time to keep track of what is going on.

Why? Well, this project could go one of two ways: putter along for a while and then fade away, or actually become a major part of our lives. If the latter turns out to be the case, then I would like to have a record on hand describing just how things developed.

The entries in this journal were written by me back in the early days of what would turn out to be a ten-year project to make 100 prints based on the 'Hyakunin Isshu' theme.

The earliest entries - the first few you are about to see - were cobbled together from notes and memories, as I tried to put together what had happened 'so far', but from the entry for February 1989, they appear here as written 'live' ...
