Step Twenty-eight ...

This is listed as one 'step' but it is actually two impressions in one. The block is dampened as usual for a gradation, but with a slightly dirty water (thus killing the too-bright orange tone). Then one brush rubs on pigment extending down the chimney from the top. The impression is taken, then the paper is laid to one side for a few seconds while the moistening/brushing process is repeated, but this time with a much smaller brush, which dabs on just a smidgeon of dark pigment at the very tip of the chimney. A second impression is taken, with just a single ... 'zip' ... stroke of the baren.

If I try and do these two together in one go, too much dark pigment gets mixed up with the other brush, and the main gradation gets too dark too quickly ...
