Post subject:  I am having some problems making my ink lay flat

I am having some problems making my ink lay flat on the paper.  ...  I have been experimenting with different dosa mixtures with nikawa and alum and applying them warm to the paper.  Do you have any tips on what I should be looking for in this application.  I am using milori or prussian blue pigment.  The real problem is that this is a one color print for an artist and it needs to be perfectly flat (no baren marks, speckles, or brush marks).  I am trying not to print the paper a second time.  In general in my printing it might be the very light flat tones that give me the most trouble.  Usually I can hide them, or they do not matter to the artist as much

If you have too much alum, you will definitely have problems with pigments not penetrating the paper. After applying your size, is the paper shiny or speckled at all? If so, too much alum ...
