Fritz Capelari

Born in Austria in 1884, Capelari had training as a classical painter. He arrived in Asia when he was 27, and was prevented from leaving Japan by the onset of the Great War. His experiments in collaborative printmaking with Shozaburo Watanabe during those years are credited with being one of the instigations behind the 'shin-hanga' movement.
