I fear there has been another misunderstanding here ... The idea of having a rectangular 'handle' on the baren is unusual, to say the least. I have checked this with a number of experienced printers here in Tokyo, and they all express disbelief that this strip of paper was intended to be used in such a way. The consensus seems to be that it was kind of label from the maker, perhaps describing the 'size' of coil.

If so, then this sample in the Smithsonian is almost certainly the only surviving example. Such a label would never have been preserved here ...
